LOOKING AHEAD
This study
about God's creative Word centers on Jesus Christ:
what He was
in His early days, what He means to us now, and what He means to us
regarding
the
future.
He is our
only hope.
Lesson 1 takes us back to the role
of wisdom before, during,
and after Creation. This is followed
in lesson 2 by
the
account in John
1
of Jesus, the Word, becoming flesh. The eternal Word, who existed in
eternity past, existed as a separate Person from
His Father and was deity;
yet He became human in order
to identify with us and save us. Lesson 3 describes the first
of several miracles that John recorded to prove Christ's deity,
namely, the turning
of water into wine at the wedding in Cana.
Lesson 4 takes part of Jesus'
conversation with
Nicodemus and describes His purpose in coming to save us.
Jesus was lifted
up
on the cross in much the same way as the bronze serpent
was
lifted
up
before
Israel
to become the means of salvation
from
death for those people.
Lesson 5 shows
Jesus
on the way to that cross by giving us a glimpse into His
conversation with Pilate,
in which He
admitted to being a king. In
lesson 6 we see
Jesus
after the cross,
revealing Himself as the Living Word, no longer
dead.
The second unit is about the Word here
and
now. Lesson 7 describes
Jesus' cleansing
of the
temple,
showing
that
His Father
considers worship to be a meaningful practice not
to
be ruined by external
things. In,lesson
8 we find Jesus bringing
eternal life to the Samaritan woman. This
is
the
life
He offers everyone today. In
lesson
9 He heals the
blind
man, soon after declaring
Himself
to be the Light of
the
world,
This
seems to be a demonstration
of
how He continues to offer
spiritual
light to all today.
The third
unit
is titled
"The Word Will Be" and
reveals four things Jesus is to us today. He is the Bread of
life
(lesson 10), who gives us
the
spiritual
nourishment
we continually need. He is the good
Shepherd
(lesson 11),
who knows all His sheep
and has a personal concern
for each
one. He
is
the Resurrection and the Life (lesson 12), who
is
the guarantee
that we have eternal
life
once our faith
has
been placed in Him for salvation. He is also the way, the truth, and
the life (lesson 13), who is our only avenue
to heaven.
The eternal
Word is
relevant
for today. It is a comfort
to
know that He lives,and
cares for each of us.
